The annual exhibition of Künstlerhaus Bergedorf started on December 9, 2023, and will be open until Sunday, December 17, 2023. You can visit the exhibition rooms of Künstlerhaus between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm on the remaining days (next Saturday and Sunday). If you want to avoid the shopping rush, which is too late to buy presents anyway, and to enjoy mulled wine in pleasant weather, visiting the exhibition is a great idea.

The blurred edges festival already started a few days ago (but time is an individual sensation of man and not really existent in physics, so we are neither too late nor too early). And lasts until 18.06.2023. In Hamburg. Should we go (it looks interesting) we will of course report. More details you will find here.
Of course, we can now discuss what role music plays in films. In general.
Of course, directors use it to build up the tension. Or to create a very specific atmosphere. Which doesn’t always work.
But often music is ordered for the film. Or composed by themselves (as in the case of SQÜRL, but that’s a whole other story). In other cases, classical pieces are used. The audience often knows these and so the image is transported with the help of familiar sounds and the audience is… shown.
It is rarer that directors choose experimental music that was not composed for the film. So in the case of György Ligeti. The Free Academy of Arts in Hamburg presented a selection. We were not there. But the thought alone is exciting. And time plays only a subordinate role anyway. More information here (external link):

Kunst auf Empfehlung. Kann es funktionieren? Die Wirtschaft (oder das, was wir als Wirtschaft bezeichnen) praktiziert seit geraumer Zeit Anstellungen auf Empfehlung. Und sie funktionieren nicht immer.
Die TEARAPART_GALLERY organisiert seit geraumer Zeit wechselnde Ausstellungen, doch die Künstler der aktuellen Gruppenausstellung “Keine Kunst ist auch keine Lösung – Teil FÜNF” wurden… eben… empfohlen.

The art exhibition preisGEBEN will take place from tomorrow, 13.04.2023 until 14.05.2023 at the art gallery xpon-art.
In Potlach culture, the term giving (GEBEN) was something… positive. It is an open question whether, in the end, this culture would have destroyed itself or not. But giving has a different meaning in Germany. Which it does not have otherwise. Together with price (preisgeben) it means to betray something or someone. This exhibition deals with that.
The vernissage is today, 13.04. at 18:00 in Hamburg. In the xpon-art gallery in Repsoldstr. More information here (external link, maybe give away your dates if you follow the link).
The Outgaze Film Festival will take place this year from 01.04 – 30.04. The organizing team also includes Maja Holzinger, whose film we have briefly reviewed here.

Vom 10.03 bis zum 19.03. findet in Austin / Texas die SXSW statt. Wer hat es mal so schön formuliert? Es sieht aus, als wenn sich zufällige Menschen am zufälligen Ort zufällig getroffen hätten.

You may be… surprised when you read about the concept of the Annual Exhibition in Hamburg (the full name is very long). But we visited the vernissage last Friday and it was… good. A very different concept, but also an exciting idea for an exhibition.
